Construction of the vacuum chamber for our rubidium experiments has begun. Right is a picture of Shuan and Julian carefully assembling the ultrahigh vacuum components. Below is a picture of our steel chamber at the start of our high-temperature hydrogen bake.
November 2025
The group has been awarded $1.1 million in new research funding through the Ohio Federal Research Network (OFRN) to pursue photonic interfaces for atom-based quantum processors.
The award is a part of OFRN's Round 7 projects, which include $10.198 million to support seven collaborative research and development projects across Ohio's academic and industry partners. The project includes collaboration with SRICO, Inc., Steven Olmschenk at Denison University, and federal partners at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and NASA John Glenn Research Center, all here in Ohio (see the map below).

We've started moving all of our optics, lasers, and vacuum equipment into the renovated laboratory space. In the meantime, Dimitri and Julian have been perfecting the art form of real-time spatial light modulation of optical tweezers! (see right for their videos of mighty morphing optical tweezers)

The laboratory renovations are nearly done! Big shout out to Shyft Collective, Prater Engineering, Rockwood Builders, OSU Facilities, and the many associated teams for their great and fast work!
